Amazon Dropped the $10k Insurance Floor. New Sellers, Read This.

Effective Nov 2, 2026, enhanced-safety categories need $1M commercial liability insurance even at $0 of the old monthly threshold. Here is how new sellers should test the waters before they list.
Amazon just rewrote who needs commercial liability insurance on the marketplace - and the old "$10,000 in a month" floor is no longer the whole story.
Effective November 2, 2026, sellers with products in enhanced safety listing categories must carry commercial liability insurance whether or not they hit that monthly threshold. Coverage stays at $1 million per occurrence and in the aggregate. That applies to new listings and existing ones.
Amazon names children's products, cosmetics, ingestibles, and lithium-battery products among the categories in scope - not a complete list, and a lot still depends on which category the listing was created under. If you sell $100 a month in the wrong bucket, you are still in the rule.
There is a second hammer: sellers based in Mainland China must obtain that cover through Amazon's Insurance Accelerator. That is not a soft suggestion. It is a path that will knock some volume off the platform when November lands.
For operators already covered, this is a market-structure shift. For new sellers testing Amazon, it is a gate you need to see before you pour inventory into a category that suddenly requires a policy.
What this means if you are testing the waters
- Category first, ads second. The listing category is not a label. It is an insurance trigger. Check it before you build the catalog.
- Small volume is not a free pass. The old $10k/month idea lulled casual sellers. Enhanced-safety categories wipe that cushion.
- Budget the policy into the experiment. A test launch that ignores $1M liability cover is not a test. It is a compliance surprise in November.
- Watch who stays. Some thin sellers and some overseas sellers will exit. That can open air for compliant brands - only if you are ready to list clean.
Inside the Undique Business Incubator we treat marketplace rule changes like this as operator homework, not rumor. We map category risk, insurance timing, and a crawl-walk-run way to put product on Amazon without betting the farm on a listing that cannot stay live.
If you are a new seller, do not wait for a Seller App banner in October to discover you needed a policy. Read the requirement, price the cover, then decide whether that SKU is worth the experiment.
The real-world lesson: Amazon is raising the bar on who can sell in higher-risk categories. The winners will be the ones who planned for the policy, not the ones who hoped the $10k floor still protected them.
Ready to test Amazon the operator way - category, insurance, then scale? That is the work inside the Undique Business Incubator.
